Advisory Bodies

Green Committee

The Green Committee advises the City Council and Planning Commission on initiatives that support the General Plan, Climate Action Plan, and regional climate efforts. Its work focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing carbon sequestration, and promoting climate adaptation strategies. The goal is to build a more sustainable Calistoga and improve community quality of life.

Initiatives

Foodware and Waste Reduction Ordinance

The Calistoga City Council adopted Ordinance 759, developed with guidance from the Green Committee, to regulate reusable foodware and reduce waste citywide. The ordinance creates a new municipal code chapter, updates existing sections, aligns with state law (AB 1276), and supports Calistoga’s broader goals for environmental sustainability and net-zero carbon emissions by 2030.

Gas Leaf Blower Prohibition

The Calistoga City Council adopted Ordinance 753, a new regulation developed with input from the Green Committee that bans gas-powered leaf blowers, limits the use of electric models to designated hours, and launches a rebate and public education program to support the transition.

Integrated Pest Management

The Green Committee is developing a proposed Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program aimed at promoting long-term pest control through natural and sustainable practices, with an emphasis on reducing reliance on harmful chemicals.
